Tooth whitening is the dental approach used to whiten the natural color of your teeth by removing any discoloration present on the surface of the teeth. There are several ways in which the teeth may get discolored including frequent consumption of tea, coffee, soda, and red wine, among other beverages. Issues of teeth discoloration may also develop due to the use of cigarettes, pipes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco which stains your teeth’s enamel and dentine. Aging and the use of antibiotics can also make the teeth appear darker.
Assessing your Condition
The color of your teeth can vary. Some people have a gray shade on their teeth while others may have white spots on the surface of the teeth, which might have been caused by early tooth decay. It is important that you visit the dentist in order to determine the cause of your teeth staining. During your dental appointment with Avenue Dental Care, we will assess the condition and cause of your teeth discoloration and recommend whether teeth whitening is appropriate or not. If appropriate, we will discuss with the various options of teeth whitening with and which would be the most suitable for your condition.
How does Zoom Teeth Whitening Work?
In zoom teeth or chair-side whitening, the procedure utilizes a twenty-five percent hydrogen peroxide gel combined with Zoom’s small but significant amounts of ultra-violent (UBV)light. The combination of gel application together with the Zoom advanced power chair side lamp catalyzes the bleaching process. As a result, the hydrogen peroxide is broken down whereby oxygen penetrates the enamel and dentine of the teeth to bleach the stained coloration, leaving the structure of the teeth unaltered. Gum protection from hydrogen peroxide irritation is vital, so we will fit your mouth with gum shields. At Avenue Dental Care, we ensures that the procedure is performed in a safe and professional environment without causing harm to the gum and in accordance with your unique needs.
What to Expect with Zoom Teeth Whitening
The length of time required for the zoom whitening procedure varies depending on the extent of your teeth’s discoloration, but on average, the procedure can take from one to two hours. The effects of whitening are believed to last up to three years, but this time frame may vary from person to person. Frequent consumption of drink products and smoking may reduce the effect of teeth whitening. Some of the side effects associated with the zoom teeth whitening procedure include temporary teeth sensitivity to cold drinks, discomfort and white patches on the gum line, and a sore throat which should disappear within a few days after treatment. In case these side effects persist, it is important that you book a follow up appointment with us.
Zoom teeth whitening only works for natural teeth and is ineffective for false teeth such as dentures and veneers.
